"As a magician I promise never
to reveal the secret of any illusion to a non-magician, unless that
one swears to uphold the Magician's Oath in turn. I promise never to
perform any illusion for any non-magician without first practicing
the effect until I can perform it well enough to maintain the
illusion of magic."

WHAT IS MAGIC YOUTH
INTERNATIONAL?

 |
Magic Youth International (M.Y.I.) was originally founded in 1955 as a
magic correspondence club by two Chicago teenagers, Robert J. Watson
and Keith Halbasch.
By 1966, Magic Youth International was
the third largest independent magic organization in the United States
just behind the International Brotherhood of Magicians (I.B.M.) and the Society
of American Magicians. |
| |
|
|
|
|
In 1998, the I.B.M. adopted the
independent youth program as it's official youth branch.
The I.B.M. charters individual local
chapters called Rings. Over 300 Rings link a worldwide network of
magic professionals and enthusiasts in the search for artistic
excellence. The professional and amateur magic artists within these
Rings sponsor, support and mentor M.Y.I. affiliate chapters around the
globe.
In 2007, I.B.M. Raleigh Ring #199 felt
the call to provide local guidance and training to young Triangle
magicians. The Raleigh Chapter of Magic Youth
International was formed with the support of some of
the Ring's most talented performers. |

Magic Youth International has five basic program goals:
-
To educate young magicians to the
ethics, history and skill of the international magic community;
-
To expose skilled adult and gifted youth
members to one another for their mutual benefit;
-
To promote positive self-esteem and
confidence among serious young magicians;
-
To sculpt our magical youth into adults
who will honor the fraternal traditions of the I.B.M.;
-
And to project community awareness of
magic as a valued theatrical art and community service.
|
| |
|
|
|
|
Raleigh Ring #199 provides accomplished adult magic advisors
and mentors to help guide each level of the program. However, it
is the youth members that decide
what skills they learn and how best to use them.
Magic Youth
International teaches
leadership skills, public performance and theatrical techniques and
more. |

The Raleigh Chapter of
Magic Youth
International is sponsored by
the Wallace Lee-Dick Snavely International Brotherhood of Magicians Ring #199. Membership is
open to any Triangle teen between the ages of 7 through 17 years with
a serious interest in the magic arts.
The chapter offers three proficiency
levels:
-
Magic Apprentice -
This beginner's level offers a nine-month magic course in magic
history, ethics, theory and skill. A new skill and effect is
taught each month. Upon completion of the course, graduates
are invited to join the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
-
Magic Journeyman -
The intermediate level offers a nine-month hands-on course in
showmanship, stage and audience management, act development and
various theatrical and technical skills. At the conclusion of
the course, graduates will produce and star in a public magic
showcase.
-
Youth Magician -
The advanced level features one-on-one mentoring in the youth
members chosen performance specialty. Magician level members
are skilled and talented performers well on their way to their own
polished and professional acts.
-
In addition to the three proficiency
levels, The Raleigh Chapter of Magic Youth International
offers The Magicians' Roundtable,
a professional-level performance group comprised of the brightest
and most talented young magicians within the Triangle.
